Ingredients:

For the Chicken Filling:

  • 2 boneless chicken breasts, thinly sliced or shredded
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Chopped cilantro (coriander leaves) for garnishing

For the Chapatis (Flatbreads):

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • Water (as needed)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil or ghee (clarified butter) for cooking

For Assembling:

  • Sliced onions, tomatoes, and lettuce
  • Mint chutney or sauce of your choice

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Chicken Filling:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add ginger and garlic paste, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  3. Add chicken slices or shreds, and cook until they turn white and start to brown slightly.
  4. Add turmeric, cumin, coriander, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Cook for a few minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and well-coated with the spices.
  6. Add yogurt and lemon juice. Stir and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Garnish with chopped cilantro. Remove from heat and set aside.

2. Prepare the Chapatis:

  1. In a bowl, combine whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt.
  2. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough. The dough should not be too sticky or too dry.
  3. Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls.
  4. Roll each ball into a thin, round chapati using a rolling pin and a little dry flour to prevent sticking.
  5. Heat a griddle or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Place a chapati on the hot griddle and cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles start forming.
  7. Flip the chapati and cook the other side until brown spots appear. You can apply a little oil or ghee on both sides for a nice texture and flavor. Repeat for all chapatis.

3. Assembling the Rolls:

  1. Lay a chapati on a clean surface.
  2. Place some of the prepared chicken fillings in the center of the chapati.
  3. Add some sliced onions, tomatoes, and lettuce on top of the chicken.
  4. Drizzle mint chutney or your preferred sauce over the fillings.

4. Rolling the Chapati:

  1. Fold the sides of the chapati over the fillings, making sure they overlap slightly.
  2. Start rolling from the bottom, tucking in the fillings as you go.
  3. Roll tightly until you have a secure and compact roll.

5. Serving:

  1. Your Chicken Chapati Roll is now ready to be served.
  2. You can wrap it in parchment paper or aluminum foil to make it easier to hold and eat.
  3. Serve immediately with extra mint chutney or sauce on the side.
